Waterford is Ireland's fifth largest city in Ireland and is the major urban centre and economic capital of the South Eastern Region. The city has been designated as a gateway city by the Government under the National Spatial Strategy for Ireland.
According to the 2016 census the city has a population of approximately 54,000 people while the immediate catchment area has a population close to 200,000. The city is situated on the south east coast approximately 165km south of Dublin, 50km south of Kilkenny and 60km west of Wexford.
The city is well serviced by transport links. The M9 motorway is within extremely easy reach and links motorists to the national motorway network. The 165 km journey to Dublin takes just two hours. The N25 route to Cork and Wexford is also easily accessible.
Intercity train services operate from Plunkett Station. The bus station is used by Bus Eireann for regional services & city center services. Waterford is also the closet deep water port to mainland Europe.
